Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew rejected fanaticism and condemned violence in a letter sent to Donald Trump on April 26, 2026, following a security incident during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, D.C.
Bartholomew expressed profound concern over the incident and extended heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the President, the First Lady, and all attendees. He thanked Almighty God that both the President and First Lady remained unharmed.
The Patriarch also voiced concern for an injured member of the United States Secret Service and prayed for his swift and full recovery. He acknowledged the efforts of those tasked with protecting public officials and maintaining public order.
Bartholomew described the act of violence as a stark reminder of the fragility of human security and stressed the urgent need to reject hatred, fanaticism, and all forms of aggression. He urged leaders and society to replace divisive rhetoric with restraint, mutual respect, and a commitment to human dignity.
He concluded by offering prayers for the President, the injured officer, and the American people, asking for safety, healing, and guidance toward justice, harmony, and national unity.

“Ευχαριστούμε τον Παντοδύναμο Θεό που Εσείς και η Πρώτη Κυρία είστε καλά και εκφράζουμε το ενδιαφέρον μας για το μέλος της Μυστικής Υπηρεσίας των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών που τραυματίστηκε κατά την εκτέλεση του καθήκοντος. Παρακαλούμε τον Κύριο να του χαρίσει ταχεία και πλήρη ανάρρωση και να ενισχύσει όλους όσοι είναι επιφορτισμένοι με την προστασία των δημοσίων λειτουργών και τη διατήρηση της δημόσιας τάξης”, ανέφερε ο Παναγιώτατος.
“Μια τέτοια πράξη βίας, ειδικά στο πλαίσιο μίας εκδήλωσης αφιερωμένης στη δημόσια ζωή, την επικοινωνία και τις ευθύνες της δημοκρατικής κοινωνίας, αποτελεί μια σοβαρή υπενθύμιση της ευθραυστότητας της ανθρώπινης ασφάλειας και της επείγουσας ανάγκης να απορριφθεί το μίσος, ο φανατισμός και κάθε μορφή επιθετικότητας”, πρόσθεσε, μεταξύ άλλων.
